The Sender ID Framework is an industry initiative resulting from the convergence of Microsoft’s Caller ID for email proposal and Meng Wong’s Sender Policy Framework (SPF).  Championed by email industry leaders, Sender ID was developed to counter domain name spoofing – the number one deceptive practice used by senders of email phishing scams and spam.  Based on evaluating the sending server’s IP address, Sender ID verifies that an email message originated from the domain it claims to come from and holds emails accountable that attempt to falsify their origin.
